Happy Holidays!

The holidays are upon us...the decorating and baking are making us feel festive, the shopping is well underway and the cards are hopefully in the mail.  This year finds many of us carefully budgeting our gift giving and wanting to make sure the gifts we do give are useful.  In recent years, we have solved the gift giving dilemma by giving gift cards.  With rumors of stores closing this year (many of which are just rumors - be sure to check with individual stores to confirm), consider purchasing gift cards that are good for mall-wide stores or purchase Visa or American Express gift cards which can be used at many types of retailers.

Here are some other things to think about this year:

  • Rather than giving individual gifts to each person in a family, give a "Family Gift".  Read on for some ideas!
  • Shop locally when you can - supporting local businesses and business owners also helps the community in which you live.
  • Ship locally; stop by locally owned mailing centers for your shipping needs.
  • Demonstrate to your kids the true meaning of the holidays by showing them how to give back...
Make a donation in the name of someone on your shopping list to their favorite charity.
Decorate a gingerbread house or bake cookies and deliver them to a retirement home with your kids. It is sure to put a smile on everyone's face.
Ask your school principal or preschool director if there are families at your school in need... consider adopting them for the holidays with an anonymous gift card or a basket filled with all the fixings for a holiday meal.

With the new year approaching, a fun way to ring it in is to involve your kids in creating "Family New Year's Resolutions". Decide together on things you would like to do as a family in 2009... weekly game night, less television, more reading, new adventures... have fun with it and pick things you can all follow through with.

We wish each of you a wonderful, family-filled holiday season.  Thank you for supporting; if you don't have a territory in your community, we hope you will in 2009!

Happy Holidays!

Practical, yet delicious... Practical, yet delicious...

Choosing gifts for family and friends can be tricky.  Although sometimes it may seem boring to give a practical gift, there are options that can make you feel like you are helping out or providing a special indulgence!  Here are some ideas:

Have you ever had a Wolferman's english muffin?  In a word...delicious!  Their scones, toppings and spreads are great, too, and they offer a way for you to customize gift baskets with your favorites.

Our new favorite is Patchi Chocolate. They have amazing and special chocolates and a great kids line of chocolate products that would be wonderful stocking stuffers.

Williams-Sonoma offers the practical and the indulgent! You can order anything from incredible, fresh baked croissants to a complete meal.

Baking your favorite cookie, muffin or cake or making candy or fudge also makes a thoughtful gift.  Display it on a holiday plate, wrap it with ribbon, and voila, a great gift! Check out our recipe club for ideas.

HoneyBaked Ham offers delicious meal options including ham, turkey, beef, pork, side dishes, desserts and gift baskets.

Hickory Farms online ordering allows you to put together the gift you want to give whether it be beef stick and cheese, special nuts or decadent desserts.

Wine can be a thoughtful gift as you will be remembered when they enjoy your indulgent gift.  Many wineries allow on-line ordering; although, you need to pay attention to delivery guidelines if you are having it shipped.

Costco sells gift cards for membership which you can purchase for someone on your list.  A Costco membership is truly a gift that gives the whole year through!  Also, Costco offers discounted gift cards for other outlets - for example, they are selling 5, $20 gift cards to Starbucks for $79.99!

Can you ever go wrong with a coffee card? Starbuck's, Pete's, Coffee Bean are all easy to send and fun to receive.

Disneyland during the holidays... Disneyland during the holidays...

Our travel review this month is on Disneyland and California Adventure...

Dubbed "The Happiest Place on Earth", we can't agree more!  Whether you have old favorites or prefer the latest attractions, Disneyland and California Adventure offer something for everyone.  While this time of year is especially magical as it snows nightly (yes, snow, Disney-style), we think it is a great place to travel to at any time of the year. If you have never been to Disneyland, or even if you haven't been there in a few years, you will enjoy the experiences of both classic and new.  The days at Disneyland pass far too quickly as you choose between rides (attractions), parades, shopping, character visits, snacks and, of course, restaurants.  The great memories and the non-stop fun make future visits to the Disneyland Resort something the whole family will look forward to.

Read our Disneyland Travel Review for details on how to do Disney in 2 days! We even found the perfect and affordable botique hotel next door.  Check out our Blog that shares the Disneyland experience from the perspective of parents, including a dad experiencing the magic for the first time with his children!  There are some great tips, check it out!

New, for 2009, Disneyland is offering FREE admission on your birthday.  In order to take advantage of this great offer, you need to register on the Disneyland website.
